DrivAer CFD Benchmark

DrivAer CFD Simulation Benchmark

This benchmark project shows a CFD simulation using TCAE simulation environment

The DrivAer Benchmark is one of the most widely used test cases for automotive aerodynamics validation. It represents a realistic passenger car geometry, designed by TU München, that bridges the gap between idealized aerodynamic models and real-world vehicle shapes.

In this TCAE tutorial, the DrivAer model is used to demonstrate the complete CFD workflow in TCAE — from geometry preparation, meshing, and setup, to simulation, postprocessing, and automated reporting.

The tutorial highlights:

  • Accurate prediction of aerodynamic drag and lift coefficients

  • Detailed visualization of flow separation, wake formation, and pressure distribution

  • Comparison of TCAE simulation results with experimental data

  • Practical demonstration of TCAE’s automation, scalability, and open-source foundation

This benchmark proves TCAE’s capabilities in high-quality automotive aerodynamics simulations, providing a reproducible, industry-relevant example for both research and engineering practice.
