Clean the Shells and Faces

  • Make all the 29 shells visible again. At Globe Valvess.
  • Select them in the Object Browser right mouse button click on selected shells and click Show (see figure crossref).
42

Figure: Show all shells

  • Hide all the shells that are unimportant.
  • For better visualization of important parts, show these shells together with a compound which was created at the end of the previous subsection. (valve body compound crossref ).
  • Parts which do not overlap with the valve body compound and are not inside the compound, can be deleted or hidden (see figure crossref).

Figure: “Globe Valvess” shells

  • After removed all the unimportant shells you end up with a state as it is shown in the figure crossref .
  • In a closer look, you can see at shells in the lower part of the valve (see figure crossref), that some parts of the plug are too complex for the CFD simulation. Such a complexity is useless. Those parts are better to be replaced by much simpler surface that will have no influence on CFD results.
  • See the figure crossref, the red parts (faces) will be removed and the green parts will be kept or simplified.

Figure: Valve plug shells – keep and pre-process green, remove red

  • The state shown in the figure crossref consists of multiple shells. It is necessary to merge them together into a new continuous compound for further processing.
  • Create new compound from these important shells. How to create a new compound is described in the subsection crossref
  • The next step is to split (explode) the newly generated compound into its faces. How split (explode) the compound see section crossref
  • After exploded, those faces which are not in a contact with a fluid shall be hidden as usual.
  • Hide unimportant faces.
  • Finally, faces needed for the generation of the “green plug” (see figure crossref) are shown in the figure crossref.
